Create a Rotating Video for Instagram Stories

What you need

• A video you already filmed. Nothing has to be shot in a special way.
• MOV or MP4 - the two formats phones normally produce.
• A phone browser. Rotate My Story is a website, not an app install.

How to make an Instagram Story rotating video

1. 1. Open the tool and switch to the video option.
2. 2. Choose your clip. Short and vertical works best for Stories.

Choosing a clip that looks good

• Vertical framing fills the Story canvas and leaves room to move.
• A few seconds is plenty. Viewers spend the time tilting, not watching.
• Scenes with depth - a street, a view, a room - read best as the frame turns.
• Very dark or very busy footage makes the movement harder to notice.

iPhone and Android

Video works most reliably on iPhone today. On Android, photos are the safer bet: certain save and share flows rewrite video files on the way to the gallery, and the Story rotation option may then not appear. Downloading the file directly, instead of sharing it, gives the best chance on Android.

If the rotation option doesn't show up

• Make sure you selected the saved, prepared clip and not the original.
• Update Instagram - the experience is rolling out gradually.
• Avoid re-saving or re-editing the clip in another app first.
• Instagram controls this feature and can change or remove it at any time, per account or region.
